Questions people ask
Why so many strategies?
Because diversification is the closest thing trading has to a free lunch. Strategies win and lose at different times, so running several together smooths the swings — more total profit for less volatility (a better Sharpe ratio) than any one of them alone. A bigger pool also spans more markets and more styles, so you can spread across Nasdaq, S&P and gold instead of betting everything on one edge.
Do you hold my money?
No. Your funds stay in your own account at your broker. Penguin Algos sends trade instructions to that account — we never take deposits and never have custody of your money.
Do I need TradingView or any trading software?
No. The strategies are ours and run on our infrastructure. You only need an account with a supported broker and the Penguin Algos dashboard.
Which brokers are supported?
We're launching with Tradovate for futures. More brokers are on the roadmap.
How were these backtested?
Every strategy runs the same gauntlet before it earns a spot in the pool: feature optimization, in-sample backtesting, walk-forward optimization, and finally out-of-sample testing on data the strategy has never seen. And to be doubly sure, most strategies are also forward tested — run live on real market data before release. That process is designed to catch curve-fitting, but no amount of testing makes a backtest a guarantee.
Are the performance numbers realistic?
They are honest, but they are not your net return. Published figures are calculated from the strategy's own signal prices with no commissions and no slippage deducted, so your real-world results will be lower — by roughly your broker's round-turn cost per trade, multiplied by how often the strategy trades. A strategy that trades often is affected far more than one that doesn't.
What we do promise is the full picture rather than the flattering half: drawdowns, win rate and statistical significance are published alongside the returns. You can also run any strategy you own on a paper account with your own fee and slippage assumptions before committing real money. Past performance never guarantees future results, and every strategy goes through losing stretches.
Can I stop a strategy whenever I want?
Yes — every strategy has an on/off toggle per account, and changes take effect immediately for new signals. You can also manage your positions directly at your broker at any time; the system is built to detect that and stand down gracefully.
